Easy DIY elastic hair ties tutorial
DIY Elastic Hair Ties Tutorial Contributor post by Brittany I'm blown away at how quickly these elastic hair ties have become so popular! I'm literally seeing them EVERYWHERE! Maybe it's because of the vibrant colors, how cute they look when worn on your wrist, or their super-stretchability that leaves absolutely NO-CREASE in your hair. Tempted to purchase some for yourself? DON'T. Just don't. The average price on Etsy for a small set of solid color elastic hair ties averages out to be about $1 per band. Any type of printed band will get you shelling out 3-4 times more. Kinda crazy. So today I am going to show you how to make these trendy elastic hair ties for about 10 cents each! Woo-hoo!! DIY Embellished Hair Ties image Pictured above are the items you will need: •5/8" fold over elastic (I am using HBC's turquoise, neon green, neon pink and grape) •measuring tape •lighter •scissors image I generally use about 10" of elastic per hair tie. Play around with a few different sizes and see what you like best! Also consider if the owner will be wearing their bands on their wrists as well as in their hair- You can use the wrist measurement plus an additional 4-5" for the knot and ends. After your length is measured and cut, bring your 2 ends together as shown above. image Make a loop while holding the ends together. image Loop the end around and pull through the small opening. Make sure the new opening of your band is the size you want before pulling the knot tight. image DONE! Seriously that's all their is to it! I like to trim my ends at an angle and quickly run a lighter across the freshly cut edge to prevent any fraying. image Now keeping making more, and more... image And in just a few minutes you'll have a whole set to wear and share! image If something a little more fancy is what you desire, HBC offers numerous options to bling up these pretty hair ties. Try a jewel embellishment center with rhinestones and pearls, attach one of the many small & dainty hair flowers that make a gorgeous centerpiece such as a coordinating color small satin rose knot, or 2" rounded folded chiffon hair flowers! Personally I love to use ribbon slides on my elastic hair ties! HBC offers several adorable options including circles, squares, hearts & crowns! At just 45 cents per set of 2, your new hair tie with just the right amount of sparkle will only cost about 33 cents each! Still tremendously under Etsy's price and custom made just for you! My favorite feature of using ribbon slides- you can move the embellishment around anywhere on the band even after secured in your hair! Adding these only takes a couple of seconds... image For my embellished hair tie I am using HBC's 3/8" fold over elastic in white, and a small circle ribbon slide. Pull one end of your elastic thru one side of the slide as shown above. image Now push the end down into the other opening of the slide. image Ta-da! Done! How cute is that! Check out a few of the totally cute and non-expensive embellished options you can make! One of my faves is the 3/8" frosted elastic glitter ribbon shown in hot pink at the bottom! Sparkling glitter throughout your hair tie! Also try HBC's 3/8" elastic velvet ribbon or the new 7/8" stretch elastic lace for a beautiful & elegant vintage look! image Check out all these adorable elastic hair ties we've made in just a few minutes! I hope you've enjoyed this tutorial and have tons of fun customizing your own hair ties! Have a wonderful day! :) make your own elastic hair ties

If you make these a little longer, you can make sleeve holders! My daughter uses them for messy projects and when she goes to a Paint and Sip night.
